On Monday 10th December 2018, pupils at Newick C. E. Primary School were visited by ex-England hockey captain, Kate Richardson-Walsh OBE.
The children were treated to a question and answer session with Kate whilst she also shared videos of her team becoming Olympic champions in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
Katie is an Olympic Gold and Bronze Medal winning English field hockey player. She was capped a record 375 times for her country and was the England and Great Britain Captain for 13 years
Kate talked to the children about persevering, setting personal challenges and goals and being resilient when faced with adversity. The children in Year 5, Year 6 and members of the school’s hockey club took part in a hockey masterclass with Kate which they all thoroughly enjoyed.
At the end of the morning, the children who had worked with Kate also realised that it is up to all of us as individuals to set our own goals but it is up to us to ensure that we achieve these goals through hard work, dedication, perseverance and trying to be the best we can be.
