Nus Ghani pushes to secure further funding for Wealden Schools

Wealden MP Nus Ghani is pushing the Department for Education to ensure that rural areas like Wealden are not forgotten in any future funding decisions.

Following a meeting between East Sussex MPs and headteachers, Nus met with Damian Hinds MP, Secretary of State at the Department for Education, to make the case for Wealden’s schools.

Nus received assurances that Wealden schools have received an increase of 2.2 per cent per pupil 2018-19, rising to 3.9 per cent by 2020, higher than the average increase for schools nationally. Across East Sussex, this increase totals almost £15 million.

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “Ensuring that our schools are properly funded is vital for the next generation, and that is why I continue to make representations to the Government to ensure that Wealden’s need are heard.

“I am pleased that the Government is listening and will ensure that future funding formulas allow for Wealden schools to continue to provide excellent services.

“I was delighted to see the impressive recent exam results in Wealden, and that is testament to the hard work and dedication of the teachers.

“Wealden is home to good schools, superb students and record levels of employment, so I am optimistic that the next generation of future Wealden leaders will fulfil their potential.”
