But, it was a bad day for AFC Uckfield, who saw their nine-match unbeaten run come to an abrupt halt with a six-one home defeat to Pagham.  Andy McDowell scored AFC’s consolation goal.

In minor football, the best win of the day for our local village teams was at Fletching, where the home side had a six-one win over Uckfield Town’s third team.  There were also wins for Buxted, who beat Turners Hill two-one, and for Newick, who won four-one against Barcombe.   However, there was another defeat for Maresfield, who lost by the only goal to Phoenix United.  And, Framfield and Blackboys went down two-one at Ifield’s Reserves.

Like AFC Uckfield and Uckfield Town’s third team, another team on the wrong end of a six-one scoreline at the weekend was Brighton and Hove Albion, who crashed out of the FA Cup at Liverpool yesterday.  After Kaz-enga Lua-Lua (loo-are, loo-are) had put the Albion level, Liverpool eased into the quarter-finals, thanks largely to three own goals – two from Liam Bridcutt and one from Lewis Dunk.  Brighton return to league action this Wednesday evening, when they travel to Hull City.

Finally, in local rugby union, despite holding a three points to nil lead at half-time against Folkestone, Uckfield conceded two tries in the second half to lose by ten points to three.  There was defeat too for Newick, who lost 28-15 at Rye.
