<p><strong>After two successive washouts, Uckfield Anderida will be hoping to get their league season underway pn Saturday, when they visit Tunbridge Wells Borderers. </strong></p>
<p>Buxted Park will be looking to make it back-to-back wins, when they go to Plumpton and East Chiltington.  Elsewhere in the East Sussex League, Newick entertain Rye and Maresfield are at home to Willingdon’s second team.  Fletching are away at Chiddingly, whilst Blackboys go to Selmeston.</p>
<p>Sussex’s county team picked up some late wickets yesterday evening to give them a slight edge over Worcestershire in their latest County Championship match.  Replying to Sussex’s first innings of 315, Worcester finished the second day on 231 for seven, still 84 behind.</p>

<p>Why not pop along to the open day this Saturday 15th May at Uckfield Leisure Centre with activities starting at 12.30pm to 4.30pm.</p>
<p>From 9am there will be a chance to visit the new state of the art gym, just recently refurbished from top to bottom with the very latest kit. You can even try taster classed as well. Also, you can have a go at trampolining, go on a bouncy castle, have your face painted, get onto some roller skates, and more.</p>

<p>The winner was  <strong>Victoria Hyett  £1000</strong>  and the runner up was <strong>Matilda Sherwood  £500</strong> .</p>
<p> the girls were presented with their cheques  on Monday evening by Rotary president <strong>Chris Purser at the Halland Forge Motel on Monday 14th May.</strong></p>
<p> <strong>Victoria</strong> Aged 18 attends Christ&#8217;s Hospital (4 A levels, Biology, Chemistry,Physics and Maths) after attending Chailey Secondary she lives in Birch Path Uckfield.</p>
<p>She is going to Zambia on a GirlGuiding LASER trip to promote the importance of literacy and spread the joy of reading to children in Meheba. She will be working alongside the charitie &#8220;Book Bus&#8221;. She has to raise the £3000 for the trip herself including any equipment she may need during her two weeks stay.</p>
<p>The Runner-Up <strong>Matilda </strong>Aged 17. Attends Lewes Grammar School, head girl, sports captain lives on Eastbourne Road Halland. and belongs to Royal Air Force Air cadets.</p>
<p>She will be undertaking a month long mission to Tanzania helping to build a school for diavantaged children within the community that she will be staying in. She has to raise £4000 for all the expenses of this trip jncluding visas,vaccinations and equipment.</p>
<p> Both girls will be reporting back to the Uckfield Rorary Club when their projects are completed.</p>
<p> Georgina Gamble was also present along with one of her sons because as always this award is memory of Daniel gamble the 100th person of our armed forces to die in Afghanistan</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Children from seven schools are to take part in the <strong>Alternative Uckfield Torch Run</strong> beginning at <strong>10.30am on Tuesday July 17th</strong> at the junction of London Road with the A272 near the Budletts roundabout. They will run along London Road, Uckfield High Street, through New Town and along Lewes Roadto the Little Horsted roundabout with a rolling road closure as the event progresses.</p>
<p>The distance is 2.9 miles and each school will have a distance of about 750 yards to cover. They can choose whether to have one child running the whole distance or split it between seven or eight children. The Alternative Uckfield Torch Run is being organised by the Uckfield Festival committee.</p>
<p>The schools involved are <strong>Uckfield Community Technology College – which  is designing and making the torch (without flame) – Manor, Rocks Park, Holy Cross, St Philip’s, Harlands and Little Horsted</strong>.</p>
<p><strong>Uckfield Community Technology College Design Club students from yr7&amp;8  Harry Fishlock Jasmin Coe Lucy Owens  and Kieran Groves,  show the various mock up versions of the Alternative Torch that will be used.</strong></p>

The club is endorsed by the ‘Football Association’ and are a ‘Charter Standard Development Club’, soon to have Community status the highest award available from the FA. The FA Charter Standard Award is in recognition that  the club is well run, sustainable, with child protection and safety paramount. It also recognises their commitment to coaching, player and coach development and the raising of standards of behaviour in the game of which they are proud.<br />
The 22nd consecutive ‘Sussex Sixes’ football tournament  has 120 teams entered over the 2 days and are expecting in excess of 2000 visitors as well as over 1000 children participating in the event.
