Weekend Sport Preview

After the disappointment of their narrow FA Cup exit in front of a bumper crowd at the Oaks on Tuesday night, AFC Uckfield Town get their league campaign underway on Saturday afternoon, when they welcome Steyning in the Southern Combination Premier Division.

It’s also the opening weekend of the new Mid Sussex League season.  The newly-formed Uckfield United make their bow with a visit to Scaynes Hill.  Elsewhere, Ridgewood will be hoping to continue their excellent progress in recent years, as they begin with a trip to Crawley Devils.  Buxted host Ardingly, while Fletching, Nutley, Newick and Maresfield all kick off their seasons with away fixtures.

Meanwhile, Lewes make a short trip to Haywards Heath tomorrow afternoon for a pre-season friendly.

In local cricket, Newick take on Mayfield’s second eleven tomorrow in the play-off round of the August Cup tournament. Sussex’s county team begin their final match in the Bob Willis Trophy on Sunday morning, when they face Surrey at the Oval.
