In Saturday’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town’s big match against the league leaders Lancing was postponed due to an unfit pitch at the Oaks.
Weather permitting, Uckfield are due back at the Oaks tomorrow evening, when they host Peacehaven and Telscombe in the semi-final of the Sussex RUR Cup.
In the Mid Sussex League, Ridgewood lost two-one at Mile Oak Reserves. Nutley drew two-all at Crawley Devils, and Fletching also drew two apiece with AFC Varndeanians’ third team. Elsewhere, Maresfield were beaten four-two at home to Barcombe.
Meanwhile, the games involving Buxted and Newick were both postponed.
It was a calamitous afternoon for Lewes, who, despite taking the lead in just the second minute, crashed to a six-one home defeat to struggling Cheshunt. Lewes are now only three points above the relegation zone in the Betvictor Premier Division.
And, an own goal twelve minutes from time rescued a point for Brighton and Hove Albion in a one-all draw against Watford at the Amex Stadium. The Seagulls are also three points above the drop zone in the Premier League.
There was no game at the weekend for Uckfield rugby club’s first team.
And finally, subject to a morning course inspection, there’s due to be another National Hunt race meeting at Plumpton this afternoon, with the first race off at a quarter past two.
