Cricket – Nutley 298 for 3 beat Barcombe 2nds 135 for 8

Nick Parson

Nutley kicked off their August Cup group matches with a convincing home win.

Having been asked to bat Nutley made a bright start as Ian Ritchie (114no) and Sean Fuller (31) put on an opening stand of 74.

Nick Avis (32) picked up the run rate before Nick Parsons (60) made a typically aggressive half century. Sam Aldis (21) saw Nutley to an excellent 298 for 3 while Ritchie rolled back the years (again) to carry his bat for his century. The visiting bowlers stuck to their task throughout as they toiled on a placid wicket.

Barcombe’s reply was never up with the required run rate despite a solid opening partnership of 79 between Duncan Johanson (58) and Alex Bell (21) and when Avis (3/18) removed the top three wickets fell steadily. Barcombe closed on 135 for 8 with Paul Carter (2/16) picking up two late wickets and seal a win by 163 runs.
