Isfield 1st CC 271 for 6 wkts v Hellingly 1st CC 103 all out
Isfield 1st CC won by 168 runs
Isfield played host Hellingly needing to win to progress in the August cup and hope Mayfield lost. Hellingly won the toss and bowled first and within 5 overs had both openers back in the pavilion. Huw Williams and Will Chambers consolidated until Chambers was dismissed for 30, Jamie Hall scored 22 and then a mix up saw Emile Chasseuad run out and Isfield in trouble.
Jack Fingerniessal and Huw Williams then made the most of some poor Hellingly fielding to put them to the sword and after a slow start Williams bought up a fine hundred in the last over as Isfield scored a huge 271-6, special mention to Hellingly captain Arthur Rossi who managed to almost pull off a world beating slip catch but badly injured his eye in the process but came back on to bowl 7 overs and take 2 wickets.
Faced with such a daunting total Hellingly got off to the worst possible start as competition top scorer David Tungate spooned a long hop to square leg to depart for a duck, after that Hellingly couldn’t get any momentum and Stef Halsey ended with remarkable figures of 8-7-2-2. After getting to 20 overs 71-4 the Hellingly innings subsided quickly vs Isfield spinners James Fellows and Jack Fingerniessal as they took 3 wickets each and were all out for 103.
Unfortunately for Isfield, Mayfield beat Hailsham ensuring victory in group B4, Isfield ending with 4 wins from 5 and very respectable August cup.
