Uckfield FM found in breach of Coronavirus Interview

Ofcom, the communications regulator found that a discussion on the Tony Williams show on 28 February 2020 contained potentially harmful claims about the causes of the coronavirus. These claims, made by a guest, were unsubstantiated and ran contrary to all official advice, both in the UK and internationally. They were not strongly challenged during the programme.

This was of particular concern to the regulator given listeners were likely to be seeking information about how to protect themselves, and others, from the spread of the virus.

Ofcom therefore concluded this discussion had the potential to cause significant harm to listeners. It found this was a serious failure by Uckfield FM to adequately protect listeners.

Uckfield FM were directed by Ofcom to broadcast a summary of its findings. This was done on Friday 3 April at 10:00am
