Uckfield firefighters assist with house fire at Chelwood Gate

At 7:16pm last evening East Sussex Fire and Rescue we were called to attend a fire in the roof of a large rural property on Lewes Road, Chelwood Gate.
Eight appliances attended from Heathfield, Crowborough, Uckfield, Forest Row, Mayfield together with appliances from West Sussex.

On arrival, there was a significant fire in the roof area of the property, which was scaffolded and undergoing renovation and repair.

Crews used four main jets, two hose reel jets and one hose reel jet internally to help carry out salvage. Crews worked hard in arduous conditions to both tackle the fire and to salvage the property and the owners’ possessions.

Crews will remain on scene through the night to carry out dampening down of the property and to monitor for any potential flare-ups or hot spots.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out tomorrow.
