Uckfield Council cannot claim for grant funding during the Coronavirus

The General Purposes committee of Uckfield Town Council discussed the potential reduced income of ‘over £20K a month’ during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Cllr Sparks said ‘I think it a pretty obvious comment clearly where you look at the actuals we can see a drop in income with the letting and hiring charges. Clearly this is something you have got to be aware of and respond in a best way we can, but not sure how we are going to manage that but clearly the income for the town council is going to be badly affected over the coming months’

The Town Clerk responded to a question about applying for grant funding. She said’ At present we don’t. We did apply to Wealden to try and claim grant funding’s for the fact we come under retail and leisure sector with the restaurant, and the civic centre room hire and conference events and the foresters hall, but unfortunately we are not able to receive any grant funding as we are considered to be a precepting authority which is a real gap from central government. A third of our income for 20/21 was going to come from our own generated income schemes’    She added that council and other groups would be lobbying central government.

Cll. Ben Cox asked where the council would be if the Town Council had no support.  The Town Clerk added that there were cancellations, but town council events have been re-arranged. A lot of booking have been cancelled into the summer.   ‘You could be looking at over £20K a month’
