Garden Waste collection this morning on West Park

The garden waste collection service for Uckfield has resumed

Wealden Council  announced suspension of the garden waste service for a four week period but have worked with the provider BIFFA to get the service up and running again.

A spokesperson said:

‘Please refer to the schedule of garden waste collections for your property and place the brown bin out for collection as normal by 7am on the next scheduled collection day from Monday 20 April onwards. You can find your next garden waste collection day, and also download your garden waste collection calendar for the rest of the year, from our website at https://www.wealden.gov.uk/ and use the Bin Day Search facility’

‘Although many people will have been making use of the time at home to keep their gardens tidy, please do not leave extra garden waste on top of, or around the bin, as it will not be removed. Do not overfill the garden waste bin or make it too heavy as this could result in the bin not being emptied or it getting damaged’

The local Household Waste Recycling Sites are currently closed.

Do Not Fly Tip

‘You can continue to help us by avoiding creating unnecessary waste until the tips can reopen. Please do not place excess garden waste in your refuse or recycling bins because it will not be emptied. Where possible please continue to compost at home. Here’s some advice on home composting . Don’t be tempted to fly tip. Most residents in Wealden are very responsible. Fly tipping is an offence and offenders will be prosecuted’

The Garden Waste Service from 1 July 2020 is now open. Residents can sign up between now and the 8 June to ensure you receive the licence label for your bin for collections in July.

Extra Month

The council added:

We are very grateful to our garden waste customers for their understanding and support during this difficult time we all face together. To ensure you are not disadvantaged in any way by the period the service was suspended, we will be extending the next Garden Waste Service year starting 1 July 2020 by an extra month, making it 13 months for the price of 12 months. The licence label you will receive may still say it is valid until 30 June 2021 but we will not be asking customers to pay for July 2021 collections and the following renewal will start from the 1 August 2021′

Sign up for collection

‘Our preference is for residents to sign up online using https://www.wealden.gov.uk/gardenwaste especially as our staff are very busy dealing with the Covid 19 emergency. If you cannot sign up online please phone 01323 443322 , although we may not be able to answer calls as quickly as normal. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept new customers for the current garden waste collection service year, which ends on 30 June 2020’
