Alan in training to run 5K for charity just after his birthday

Uckfield resident Alan Lloyd is doing something very special to celebrate his 68th birthday.

He was the guest of Tony Williams this morning (Monday 4th May) Here what he said:

He is going to run 5K in fancy dress to raise funds for the ‘Heads On’ mental health charity.

Heads On is the charity for Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, working at the front-line of mental health services in the fight against Covid-19.

On his Just Giving page Alan said:

‘Their staff are doing an amazing job of caring for people with mental health problems in hugely challenging circumstances and are working tirelessly to prevent a Covid-19 mental health crisis.

‘Every penny I can raise will go towards supporting people with mental health problems during Covid-19. It will provide funding for online projects to reduce loneliness and isolation at home, care packages for front-line staff, suicide prevention projects to make sure everyone gets the help they need.

Your support will help to prevent a mental health crisis, please give what you can. Thank you so much for your help!

His target was £100 but so far £440 has been raised on the Just Giving Pages.

He is hoping to do the run around his birthday which is on the 22nd May.   The run is planned for the 24th May.

Alan is a retired teacher having retired 9 years ago form the role of Head of Physics at Chailey School.

He decided he need to do something to focus on during the lock-down so set himself a goal of running 5K in 35 minutes after his birthday.

The challenge to run in fancy dress came from his daughter Fay Llloyd-Howell. She told Uckfield FM:

‘I told dad I would only sponsor him if he was going to do it in fancy dress which he reluctantly accepted.  It has snowballed. He was going to do it is one outfit but now hes planning on changing eight times in a Mr Benn style.  Donna at French’s Fancy Dress has offered to support him by allowing use of some of her costumes’

She added:

He’s already had £440 of donations since the page went live including ex Chailey pupils and Sussex Partnership staff’
