Christmas is coming, the Christmas lights are up in the High Street and Late Night Shopping is tomorrow, Friday the 6th December.
The highlight of the night will be over 400 primary school children on the Uckfield FM stage singing and being broadcast around the world live!!
Plans for this year’s extravaganza which is ‘Late Night Shopping’ have been underway since well before the summer!
There’s no doubting that the Uckfield Chamber of Commerce organised event is one of the highlights of the Uckfield calendar and happens again in just eight short weeks’ time on Friday 6 December.
Back by popular demand are the Lion’s Santa in Olive’s Yard; the Primary Schools Choir Uckfield FM stage in Town Square; the second stage near WH Smiths on which we have some fabulous local music acts playing festive tunes; the hog-roast moved this year to outside the Uckfield Volunteer Bureau; Universal Dance will be performing for 2019 outside the Civic Centre; and the Art Trail hosted by high street estate agents will provide you with a wide selection of Christmas crafts.
New for 2019, we will be pleased to see two of our local churches team up to present a Walk-through nativity in the Source building at the bottom of Luxford car park and the children’s hospice charity, Chestnut Tree House, will be sending along their Squirrel mascot complete in Christmas jumper!
Of course, there will be plenty happening in and outside Bridge Cottage and as usual, there will be a vast array of stalls selling festive food and drink up and down the High Street.
Ian Noble, chair of the organising committee said, “There has been a high demand for high street stalls this year, which maybe isn’t too surprising, given how popular the event has become.”
And Late Night Shopping wouldn’t be the same without ‘Hunt the Elf’ competition.
Gemma Morris, from the committee, commented, “We have 20 participating stores for 2019 and all our cheeky elves will be sitting in shop windows for the whole weekend, not just Friday night; all you need to do is name them!” – Entries can then be posted at the Civic Centre by Monday 9th December 5pm and we have tons of prizes to announce in the breakfast show on your local radio station the following day!
So, whatever you do, note the date of Friday 6 December – Uckfield town centre will be the place to be!
In the meantime, head over to the Late Night Shopping Facebook page where you’ll find all the latest news.
The Late Night Shopping Guide packed with information about the evening, dropped through your letter-boxes at the beginning of the month.
And finally, please do note that the High Street will close to traffic at 5.00pm and reopen as soon as everything is packed away but no later than 10.00pm
