It was an excellent weekend for the town’s senior football and rugby teams.
AFC Uckfield Town capped a good week with a one-nil victory at Pagham in the Southern Combination League. Matt Rodrigues-Barbosa scored the only goal in the first half. Uckfield are due back in action tomorrow evening, when they visit Steyning.
In rugby union, Uckfield continued their improved run of form with a 17-ten victory over local rivals Heathfield and Waldron in a hard-fought battle at Hempstead Fields.
The wet weather again badly disrupted the local village football programme. In games involving our local teams that did take place, Maresfield were three-two winners over Willingdon Athletic’s third team. But, Nutley crashed to a five-nil defeat at home to Ashurst Wood.
There was a good win for Lewes, as they came away from their visit to second-from-bottom Merstham with a four-two victory in the Betvictor Premier Division.
And Brighton and Hove Albion are in Premier League action this evening, as they go to arch rivals Crystal Palace.
And lastly, for local horse racing fans, it’s the final National Hunt meeting of the year at Plumpton this afternoon.
