In the weekend’s local football, there was agony for AFC Uckfield Town, who went down to a last-gasp defeat at Chichester City.
Despite a battling performance from Uckfield that kept the league leaders at bay until deep into stoppage time, the hosts scored the only goal of the game in the 93rd minute to open up a nine-point lead at the top of the Southern Combination League table. (match report here )
Uckfield are back in cup action tomorrow evening, when they visit Peacehaven and Telscombe in the semi-final of the Sussex RUR Charity Cup.
In the Mid Sussex League, there was another big win for Fletching, who thrashed Buxted Reserves eight-two. Elsewhere, Ridgewood drew two-all with AFC Acorns. And in a cup match, Newick had a four-two win over Balcombe’s third team.
In the Bostik Premier League, there was another disappointing result for Lewes. Despite taking the lead at Carshalton, Lewes conceded twice late on to go down to a two-one defeat.
There was no game this weekend for Brighton and Hove Albion, but the Seagulls return to action tomorrow evening with a trip to Leicester.
In rugby union, there was a thrilling match at Hempstead Fields, as Uckfield edged past local rivals East Grinstead by 32 points to 31 in their cup semi-final. (report will be published later)
And finally, for local horse racing fans, there’s another meeting this afternoon at Plumpton. The first race is due off at two-o’clock.
