In the weekend’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town got back to winning ways with a one-nil victory over East Preston at the Oaks. Callum Smith scored the winner with an 88th minute strike.
Uckfield are back in action tomorrow evening, when they visit Hassocks.
In the Mid Sussex League, Fletching were the big winners among our main local teams, as they crushed Montpelier Villa’s third team nine-nil. Elsewhere, Ridgewood won two-one at Portslade Athletic. And there were wins also for Maresfield, who beat Barcombe five-three, and for Newick, who won by the only goal at Hurstpierpoint Reserves.
But, there were home defeats for Buxted, who were beaten three-nil by Willingdon, and for Nutley, who lost four-one to Polegate.
Lewes moved up to second place in the Bostik Premier League, after an excellent four-three win at Sussex rivals Worthing.
And, Brighton and Hove Albion were beaten one-nil by Premier League leaders Liverpool in front of a record crowd at the Amex Stadium.
Finally, after their first defeat of the season the previous weekend, Uckfield rugby club got back on the winning trail with an emphatic 52 points to 17 victory over Plumpton at Hempstead Fields.
