In Saturday’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town’s match at Hassocks in the Southern Combination League was called off because of a waterlogged pitch.
In the Mid Sussex League Championship, Ridgewood’s unbeaten record came to an end after a three-nil defeat by the league leaders Sidley at the Maresfield Recreation Ground. Elsewhere, Fletching lost three-two at AFC Hurst, whilst the games involving Newick and Maresfield were also victims of the wet weather.
Despite taking a first-half lead, Lewes went down to a three-two defeat at home to Cray Wanderers in the Betvictor Premier Division.
And in the Premier League, there was agony for Brighton and Hove Albion, as they lost two-one at Aston Villa. Playing for nearly an hour with ten men, the Seagulls conceded the winner in the 94th minute.
In rugby union, it was another disappointing day for Uckfield, who were beaten 42 points to five at Bromley.
