In the weekend’s local cricket in the Sussex Cricket League, there was another agonising defeat for Uckfield Anderida, as they were beaten by just nine runs by Polegate and Stone Cross at the Victoria Ground.
Chasing the visitors’ 233 all out, Uckfield were well-placed at 199 for five, but despite 57 from Richard Coates, they fell short on 224 for nine.
Buxted Park kept up their promotion push with a six-wicket victory at Crowhurst Park, with Darren Colaco left stranded on 99 not out.
There was a key win for Isfield, who won at table-toppers Bells Yew Green by six wickets. Maresfield also won by six wickets against Lewes St Michaels, helped by an unbeaten 70 from Doug Ruthven.
Leaders Fletching had another good win, defeating Rye’s second team by four wickets.
But, there were defeats for Newick, who lost by 24 runs at home to Ringmer, and for Blackboys, who went down to a 115-run defeat by Hailsham’s third team.
Elsewhere, Nutley’s home match with Hadlow Down was abandoned.
Meanwhile, Sussex’s county team ended a rain-affected opening day in their tour match with Australia ‘A’ at Arundel on 118 for five.
And in speedway, the Eastbourne Eagles completed a good weekend with a 54-36 victory in their Championship clash with the Edinburgh Monarchs at the Arlington Stadium on Saturday night.
