In Saturday’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town took the first step on the road to repeating their memorable FA Cup run from last year, as they ran out four-one winners at Welling Town in the Extra Preliminary Round. Matt Black scored twice for Uckfield, whose other goals came from Ellis Cormack and Mayckol Sabino.
In their opening match of the season in the Betvictor Premier Division, Lewes scored a late equaliser to earn a point from a one-all draw at home to Enfield Town.
And, Brighton and Hove Albion made the perfect start to their new Premier League campaign with an impressive three-nil victory at Watford.
In local cricket, despite another magnificent century from David Tungate, Uckfield Anderida fell just short again in another close contest. Tungate scored an unbeaten 133 out of a total of 195 for five against Pett, who edged home by two wickets at the Victoria Ground.
Buxted Park boosted their promotion hopes after a 110-run win at home to Bexhill’s second team.
Both Isfield and Fletching consolidated their position at the top of their respective leagues – Isfield had a four-wicket win at Battle, whilst Fletching defeated Tunbridge Wells Borderers by 63 runs.
Elsewhere, Blackboys beat Nutley by 30 runs. Newick were bowled out for just 64, as they lost to Chiddingly by nine wickets. And, there was agony for Maresfield, as they went down to defeat at Robertsbridge by just one run.
