About 50 local men and women turned up at Uckfield Rugby Club on a lovely sunny Thursday evening for a game of Stoolball.
Stoolball is a sport that dates back to at least the 15th century, originating in Sussex.
Stoolball England website describes Stoolball as a team sport, similar to Twenty20 cricket.
A spokesperson from the Rugby Club told Uckfield FM:
“It’s all about fun, no cost involved. It doesn’t matter what age you are, or even if you cannot run. This is all about meeting people and having a giggle. For anyone – not just rugby people. A few clubs in the area have recently folded, which is a shame, however it means we can borrow their equipment and some ex players have kindly offered to attend and teach us how to play”
“If there is enough interest and people enjoy playing we can arrange to meet up regularly, continue as a social event, or even enter a league next year. Ladies, men’s or mixed. We already have a real mix of people interested in coming, from 60+ year olds that have had hip replacements, to teenagers that are super fit. As mentioned before, it’s about having fun, and we can see where we go with it”
