Nutley 184 for 5 beat Herstmonceux 2nds 181 for 5
Nutley maintained their unbeaten run with a win in an excellent match which could have gone either way, writes Ian Ritchie
Having been asked to bat Herstmonceux slipped to 36 for 2 after a slow and cautious start against the hosts accurate opening bowlers. However, the run rate picked up as Nutley had to juggle their lightweight bowling attack with Vivek Singh (71) and Paul Sandalls (39) building a solid third wicket stand before Graham Bennet (26no) and Ted Sandalls (19no) took the total to 181 for 5. Mark Reed (2/45) was the most successful bowler.
Nutley’s reply also started slowly and at 37 for 3 looked out of the game as Ted Sandalls (2/25) and Mike Galitzine (2/15) removed the top order before a superb fifth wicket partnership of 114 between Alan Poulter (79) and Reed (46no) turned the match back in the hosts favour and saw them to victory at 184 for 5 with one over to spare.
