Buxted Park batting crushes Keymer

Buxted travelled to Keymer and Hassocks looking to respond quickly after a narrow loss the previous week.

After winning the toss on what looked like a good, hard track, Buxted found themselves 20-2 after losing H. Marchesi (0) and Coddington (6), with captain Craig Olive even commenting ‘this will be a low scorer’. Tom. Clift and Banham, (on his eagerly awaited return to the club), set about proving him wrong. They hit anything and everything to the boundary, taking Buxted to a strong foundation of 130-3 after Banham (54) was out. Colaco (50) entered the fray, creating another strong partnership with Tom. Clift who continued to perfectly time ball after ball to the boundary. Some more late hitting from the middle order lead Buxted to a very strong 303-7 with Tom Clift finishing not out on his first ever century (116*) which was chance less from start to finish.

Although somewhat comfortable at tea, Buxted still had half the job to do. They got the perfect start with Huxley (2-62) claiming both the opening batsmen, which meant that Keymer were never at the races, Buxted fielded and bowled well giving nothing to the batsmen who were always way behind the rate. Wickets were shared around as Keymer were tamely bowled out for 133, 170 runs short. Buxted will be looking to continue this form as they head into a crunch match against early season promotion rivals Glynde next week at Buxted.

Elsewhere, the 2nd XI were strengthened by the returning Sammy Marchesi who hit 63 in his first game since breaking his collarbone over the Winter, but faced defeat for the 4th straight game against Seaford. The 3rd XI on the other hand continued their excellent form with a very comfortable 10 wicket win over Mayfield with Steve Harris finishing 87*.
