East Hoathly & Halland Tennis Club is holding its annual Open Day on Saturday 18th May, as part of the LTA BigTennis Weekends.
A friendly and welcoming village club, East Hoathly has something for everyone with three floodlit hard courts for social and competitive play (which were recently repainted), catering for all standards including adults and juniors. Current membership stands at just under 200 with an even split between adults and juniors.
Current members of the club will be on hand at the club’s base, the War Memorial Playing Fields in East Hoathly, to welcome potential new members – families and individuals – to the Open Day between 10.30am-2.30pm, when complimentary refreshments will be provided. Club Coach, Greg Watson, will be running complimentary junior coaching sessions throughout the morning on Courts 2 and 3, with U8s from 10.30 to 11.30 and 9 to11 year-olds from 11.30 to 12.30. Court 1 will be available for adults to have an informal hit, as will Courts 2 and 3 after 11.30am. All new memberships taken out on the day will receive a 10% discount.
The junior section of the club is thriving, during the winter season a total of 30 children between the ages of 6 and 16 years of age played in a variety of tennis competitions throughout the county and the South East of England. There were notable performances from Amelia Devlin who regular competes in U14 and U16 tournaments and has just been selected to play for the U14 county team again this Summer – she has also started to play for the East Hoathly ladies first team in the Sussex League; and Ewan Gretzer who has been training with the U9 county team and helped Sussex claim the runners-up spot in a team event in Oxfordshire – he also regularly competes in tournaments and has achieved some incredible results.
Friendly games, club sessions, coaching sessions, fun tournaments and match practices are on offer and the club enters two ladies and one men’s team in the Sussex League in the Summer and Winter seasons, plus two teams in the Summer Horam League. In addition, social events are arranged throughout the year.
