In the weekend’s local cricket, Uckfield Anderida went down to a 39-run defeat by Bells Yew Green’s second team in their opening home match of the season in the Sussex Cricket League. Batting first, the visitors made 193 for eight, with four wickets from Matt Reed. Uckfield made a solid start in reply, but could only manage 154 for eight – Joe Burns top-scoring with 37.
Buxted Park made it two wins out of two with a 43-run victory over Hailsham – Liam Olive starring with five for 14. And Buxted Park made it a good weekend with a comfortable seven-wicket win over Hadlow Down yesterday in the second round of the National Village Cup.
Elsewhere on Saturday, there was an amazing win for Isfield. They skittled out Lewes Priory for just 29 to win by 79 runs – Huw Williams taking five for 19.
Fletching lost to Laughton by 35 runs, whilst Maresfield were beaten by 19 runs by Newhaven.
Five wickets for Gary Funnell helped Blackboys to a five-wicket victory over Hadlow Down. And Nutley also had a five-wicket win against Robertsbridge’s second team.
And finally, Newick’s home clash with Hellingly was cancelled due to a hailstorm which made the pitch unplayable.
