Nutley remain unbeaten at the top of the table following a victory at Hailsham thank mainly to a solid bowling performance and some generous extras.
Having been asked to bat on an excellent track, Nutley struggled for runs against an accurate opening attack as Jon Brettany (2/23) removed both openers. A positive third wicket stand of 78 between form man Clive Croft (60) and Oskar Ainley (21) steadied things for the visitors before a middle order collapse threatened to undo their good work.
However, Croft remained patient and built another half century stand for the eighth wicket with Warren Freer (27no) as Nutley closed on 232 for 9 thanks largely to an unbelievable 78 extras! Nick Brady (3/30) and Lewis Williams (2/43) bowled well to keep runs from the bat in check.
In reply Hailsham were never near the required run rate as Ainley (3/27) and Freer (2/21) produced excellent opening spells to both cap solid all round performances. Lewis Williams (40) went on the attack against the change bowlers but all hope was lost when he was stumped in an unfortunate fashion leaving Alex Renals (29) to pick up an extra batting point as Chris Cocklin (3/29) and Alan Poulter (2/10) took regular wickets to see Hailsham all out for 130.
Next week Nutley host Blackboys in an early top of the table clash.
