Following a pre-match downpour Nutley didn’t hesitate to ask the visitors to bat on a wet but drying wicket.
Robertsbridge crawled to 11 for 1 from the first 11 overs as the batsmen eyed the wicket with suspicion and the hosts dreamt of chasing a small target. Oh how they were wrong! Enter Paul Nice (103) at number 4 who proved that it was all in the mind as he dispatched Nutley’s bowlers to all parts of the ground during a superb innings of clean ball striking. So dominant was he the when he was out for 103 the team total was 132!! Lewis Chapman (23) and Peter Capon (19) were the only other batsmen to make double figures as Robertsbridge closed at 172 for 8 with Alan Poulter (4/35) ensuring that normality was restored.
In reply Nutley lost an early wicket before a Nick Avis (17) cameo and a half century fourth wicket stand between Ian Ritchie (58) and Clive Croft (14) set the stage for new skipper Nick Parsons (40no) and Oskar Ainley (17) to see the hosts to victory at 173 for 5 with some lusty blows and with 12 overs to spare despite the efforts of Lee Mardell (3/31)
Next week Nutley visit Willingdon.
