Cricket – Hadlow Down and Nutley

Clive Croft made 43 on debut

1st Central Sussex League Div 10 East   –   Hadlow Down 155 for 9 tied with Nutley 155

Nutley began the season with a rare tie at Hadlow Down as the new season started with sun, wind, hail, rain and an exciting finish!

The cricket was as unpredictable as the weather with Hadlow Down batting first and trying to make a positive start before Warren Freer (2/30) removed both openers and the run rate slowed. Nick Avis (3/35) continued the good work of Nutley’s opening bowlers by removing the middle order as the hosts struggled for runs before Siddharth Likhite (22) and Karim Iqbal (47) rebuilt the innings. Two suicidal run outs helped Nutley’s cause but Ryan Clark (24no) saw Hadlow Down close at 155 for 9.

In reply Nutley made a solid start before two quick wickets saw them have to rebuild with a good stand between Sean Fuller (24) and debutant Clive Croft (43) which turned the game back in Nutleys favour. However, Alex Winter (4/33) chipped away with regular wickets to ensure a nervy finish for both sides. In a chaotic finale with one wicket remaining and one run required of the last ball an appeal for a catch behind was turned down but the wicket keeper threw down the stumps for a run out and the match was tied with Nutley all out for 155.
