Uckfield Activity Day – a date for the diary

Wealden’s summer of fun will visit 5 locations including Uckfield on August 10.

As well as Uckfield the Activity Days are also taking place at Crowborough,Heathfield and Hailsham with a range of sports and activities to try for all ages, health tips, healthy eating advice and access to community services.

The Uckfield Activity Day on Saturday 10th August is expected to be Wealden’s biggest ever.

The council and team are working with Active Uckfield to attract a large number of local sports clubs, health and community organisations.

An events arena will be used to demonstrate different sports and encourage youngsters to have a go themselves.

Highlights will include a demonstration of footballing skills by Charlotte Lade, one of the world’s finest female football freestylers. She is a skills ambassador for Tottenham Hotspur and one of only eight females in the national team of Streetfootball Norway. Her attitude is: “Anything the guys can do, so can the girls.” As well as a wide range of sports and activities, there will be craft making, children’s entertainers, a play zone and much more.

“Wealden Activity Days are looked-forward to every year as an opportunity for children in our five main towns and the surrounding villages to come together. They can enjoy a wide range of organised games and activities, and pick up some health and wellbeing advice,” said Councillor Philip Lunn, Cabinet member for Public Health and Community Safety. “People of all ages can learn about the benefits of a healthier lifestyle, take part in activities to burn off the calories.  Arts and crafts are great for general wellbeing. There’s healthy eating advice and an opportunity to see some of our wonderful local community services in action.

“Soft play and activity sessions give children access to different games which they may not have tried before. We are all aware of national and local concerns about the effects of obesity on the rising generations. These opportunities should not be missed.”

Tony Rossi of Active Uckfield added: “This is a great opportunity to work in partnership with Wealden District Council and a good way to encourage local residents to become healthier and more active. The Uckfield Activity Day promises to be fantastic, with skills from Charlotte Lade, skills ambassador for Tottenham Hotspur FC, on display.”

All of Wealden Activity Days run from 10 am until 2pm except for Uckfield which closes at 3pm. Here’s where you can find them:
