“Way to go Jo Jo !”

Local Uckfield girl 43 year old Joanne Knight has just completed an amazing double, having firstly completed the Macmillan Cancer Support ‘South Coast Mighty Hike’ from Brighton to Eastbourne, a mere 26 miles which she managed to complete in 6 hours, 26 minutes!

This amazing time put Jo in ‘pole position’, beating all other 2000+ participants to the finishing line. Jo started her walk from Brighton racecourse at 8 o’clock last Saturday 8th June and followed the route through Kingston, West Firle, Alfriston and through the Birling Gap to Eastbourne to complete her walk, the first 26 mile walk she has ever completed.

The Hike was not only in aid of a great cause but also in memory of Uckfield resident Janice Chapman who sadly passed away earlier this year having survived a double lung transplant last year only to succumb to Cancer, a sad loss not only the her family but also to the members of The Uckfield Club where Jo works as Bar Manager.

After three months of planning, preparation and fund raising the Grand Finale was held at the Uckfield Club on Saturday night, with a BBQ, band and huge fund-raising raffle (and Jo’s triumphant return, obviously!) with some fantastic prizes donated by members and local businesses helping to raise the fantastic amount of £3050.00, a figure which surpassed everybody’s expectations and will obviously be a great boost to the Macmillan Cancer Trust.
