In the weekend’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town went down to a three-one defeat at Peacehaven and Telscombe in the Southern Combination League. After the hosts took an early lead, Uckfield equalised shortly after half-time with a goal from Ryan Welch.
But, Peacehaven regained the lead midway through the second half with a debatable penalty, before sealing the three points 14 minutes from time.
In the Mid Sussex League, Buxted lost four-nil to Rotherfield, whilst Ridgewood were beaten by the Brighton and Sussex Medical School by the same scoreline. Elsewhere, there were victories for Fletching, who won four-one at AFC Ringmer Reserves, and for Maresfield, who were five-nil winners at Ditchling Reserves. Meanwhile, Newick lost their cup game at Polegate Reserves five-nil.
Lewes’s play-off hopes received another setback after a four-nil defeat at Folkestone in the Bostik Premier League.
But, there was a crucial win in the Premier League for Brighton and Hove Albion, as they completed the double over arch rivals Crystal Palace with a two-one win at Selhurst Park.
In rugby union, Uckfield, who had already secured top spot and promotion the previous week, were beaten 24-15 by Eastbourne in their final home match of the league season.
And finally, for local horse racing fans, there’s another meeting this afternoon at Plumpton. The first race is due off at twenty past two.
