Remembrance Sunday events will be taking place on Sunday 10 November.
At 11:00am there will be a ceremony at the ‘Eugene Seghers’ memorial in the grounds of the Highlands Inn. Eugene Seghers was a Belgian pilot who managed to steer a V1 flying bomb away for the town centre and was killed by his actions.
At 2:30pm a remembrance parade will leave Luxford Car Park and make its way via the High Street and Church Street to the Holy Cross Church where at 3.00 p.m. the Town’s Civic Act of Remembrance followed at about 3:45pm with the laying of wreaths on the town memorial in the church yard.
Wealden’s Chairman, Councillor Pam Doodes will be in attendance along with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Uckfield and other local dignitaries.
At 11.00 a.m. on the 11th November (“the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month”) Holy Cross Church a maroon will be fired and tow minutes silence. Uckfield Civic Centre staff will stand silent for two minutes to pay their respects.
They shall not grow old
as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of
the sun and in morning
We will remember them.
