Spring was certainly in the air over bank holiday weekend – Over 15,000 people attend Spring Live!

Over the bank holiday weekend, an incredible 15,391 visitors flocked to the South of England Showground for the annual Spring Live! event.

Run by charity the South of England Agricultural Society, the two-day English country fair, which took place on Sunday 5th and Monday 6th May, celebrated the best of springtime living and offered a host of activities for every generation to enjoy.

Younger visitors were eager to participate in the wand-making workshop, medieval games (including archery and axe throwing), animal meet and greets and funfair. They were also spellbound by the maypole dancing display – the first time many of the children had witnessed and taken part in the traditional celebratory seasonal dance.

Adults looked to the experts at the Garden Theatre for top tips on getting their gardens ready for summer, enjoyed the shopping areas, or took to the artisan and street food stands for some mouth-watering treats.

Iain Nicol, CEO of the South of England Agricultural Society, said:

“It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying Spring Live! at the showground. We’ve only been running this event for a few years and there is no doubt it’s growing in popularity. We were thrilled with the turnout as, most importantly, all profits from the show will be used to help our Society’s charitable projects which support agricultural education and countryside learning in the South East.”

Iain continued:

“We are now turning our attention to the biggest attraction in our calendar – the South of England Show. Taking place in just a few weeks’ time, from 6th to 8th June, this show really is ‘THE’ ultimate countryside gathering in the South. This year’s event is set to be the biggest show in its 52-year history so we’re all very excited. We even have a visit from the Gruffalo for children on the Saturday and our first ever Wine Walk with WineGB will be held throughout the show for the adults.”

Tickets for the 2019 South of England Show are available from seas.org.uk and can be bought online in advance for a 10% discount. Tickets cost £22 for adults, £20 for senior citizens/students, and under 16 go free with a paying adult*.
