Plastic Free Uckfield campaign making good progress

The campaign for Uckfield to be plastic free is gaining momentum with the formation of an action group.

Members of the group have meet at the Uckfield Civic Centre formed sub-committees to look at how the message can get out to the residents, organisations and businesses in the town.

The group is made up of various local people including Brighter Uckfield and the Town Council.

The sub-committees will look at social media, Surfers against Sewage, Refill and Schools involvement.

It was established that there is only one official location in Uckfield which is registered under the REFILL  APP which is Costa in the High Street although other outlets are understood to fill if asked.

The Town Council have ordered a bottle filling machine and that is due to be fitted in the next month.

Walker Crisp packets can be recycled and the main place in Uckfield to do this is Green DIY on the industrial estate.   Local scouts are also collecting these packets for recycling and are collected by Walkers.

It is planned to invite a student representative from Uckfield College onto the committee to gain valuable input from young adults.

Chair of the meeting Martin Barnett explained to Mike Skinner the progress the committee had made.

If anyone wants any information please contact either Martin Barnett via Brighter Uckfield.
