Plans for shoe and key pod at Tesco withdrawn

**Update 4th June **  The application has been withdrawn but Tesco/Timson.

There were dozens of objections to these plans by local businesses and residents in the town and by the town council planning committee. There were 88 objections.

Uckfield Tesco has submitted plans to Wealden District Council for a ‘pod’ in their car park to repair shoes and watches, dry cleaning and key cutting.

The unit will be run by Manchester firm Timpson which has similar units in other stores across the country.

The announcement caused concern from shop keepers and business in the town that already supply these services.

There are at least two outlets in the town that provide shoe repair, one in Bell Walk and the other in the High Street.

Dry cleaning services are provided again in Bell Walk and the High Street and up to six shops could be affected.

All of these outlets faced a downturn in business during the High Street roadworks three years ago.

Residents are being encourage to raise objections by email to planning@wealden.gov.uk quoting WD/2019/0789/F

The Planning Committee of Uckfield Town Council will be discussing this application on Tuesday at 7pm and residents can speak at the chairman’s discretion.
