Parents at St. Philip’s Catholic Primary School Uckfield have staged their annual Pantomime Peter Pan , written and directed by Writer/Director – Sarah Cannon an ex-parent of the school who performed in one of the original pantomimes . She has a grandchild in year 1 at the school and was tempted back to not only direct, but also write the script.
This fantastic production featured Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Ma Smee, Smee, Windy Wendy, Pirate Starkey, Pirate Mullins, Pirate Jukes, Tiger Lily, CrocoDelia, Tinkerbell, Lost Boys – Tootles, Nibbs, Curly, Slightly, with all the cast being parents – apart from one teacher.
The school panto has been running for about 30 years and this year’s version of Peter Pan has been written and directed by a grandparent who performed in one of the first pantomimes. It’s evolved over the past years and they have been lucky to have Gerry Shelley who staged an impressive lighting show to enhance the performance and live music provided throughout by Dominic Hartley on the keyboards who generally got every one all ship shape to sing, previous parents have also written scripts.
This is one of the main fundraisers for the school. This year the Friends of St Philip’s are raising funds for an overheard projector, a new kit car and onging requests for equipment by the school.
Headteacher, Joanna Sanchez, praised the parents’ dedication and hard work: “We are incredibly lucky to have such a fantastic body of parents at St. Philip’s” she said, “Peter Pan sums up their wonderful talent and commitment to the school.”
