At 11.00am on Wednesday 19 June (National Refill Day), Brighter Uckfield in association with the Town Council and key supporters of the town’s Plastic free campaign, will be celebrating the launch of the town’s refill scheme.
Uckfield is moving towards a plastic free town and the refill campaign is one important part in making this happen. To help people make the switch to a reusable bottle or container in place of buying plastic bottled drinks, local businesses across the town have been signing up to Refill scheme to provide members of the public with free drinking water.
The latest to join is the Civic Centre, with the installation of a new water fountain in their ground floor foyer. Other businesses who have joined the scheme include: Barney’s Playbarn, Café 212, Lansdown Health Store, National Cat Centre at Chelwood Gate, Picture House Cinema & Restaurant, Pipedreams and Thyme for Food & Friends. Costa Coffee is already in the scheme nationally. Businesses offering a refill will be listed on the Refill app, and will have the Refill sticker in their window to alert members of the public.
Chairman of Refill Uckfield, Martin Barnett said:
“Refill Uckfield are pleased to announce the official launch of our scheme on Wednesday 19 June at 11.00am at the Civic Centre to coincide with National Refill Day. Refill Uckfield is part of the Plastic Free Uckfield campaign to reduce single-use plastic in our town.
Notes: Refill is a community based scheme organised by groups of people who are co-ordinating the Refill mission in their local area. There are now almost 200 schemes across the UK where local businesses will provide a refill for your water bottle.
