An menagerie of imaginative beasts led the annual school children’s parade on Saturday as Uckfield Festival celebrated its twentieth year.
The theme of the parade was Folk Tales. So Holy Cross School carried the large cheetah and all the children held Zulu shields to illustrate the story of the Lazy hunter.
Many schools from the town and surrounding villages took part and carried giant Parrots, a Magic Humingbird, an armadillo, a zebra -and many others, all made by the children with help from Same Sky carnival organisers!
Leading all this was a seventeen foot walking tree brought by Smoking Apple Theatre who stayed to tell the children the dramatic story of Arbor the tree and to give out seeds to grow their own trees.
Festival Chairman David Sudbery said “ We were so impressed with the involvement of the whole community in our Big Day. It was a fabulous day and there is no doubt that this was the best parade in our 20 years history.”
Schools participating were Holy Cross, Harlands, High Hurstwood, Annan, Buxted, Framfield, Little Horsted, Blackboys, Heathfield, Rocks Park, Manor and St. Phillips.
