On Friday Tesco Uckfield colleagues welcomed Amy Hope from the charity organisation Care for the Carers which was recently awarded a Bags of Help Grant of £4000 to help support Dementia Carers in the local area.
The cheque was presented to Amy by Tesco Uckfield Store Manager Jon Briley and the Community Champion Robert Muggeridge.
Through the Bags of Help Scheme Tesco Uckfield has donated thousands of pounds to local projects and community charities, each one voted for by customers in store using the blue community tokens. Care for the Carers is a perfect example of the community groups and causes Tesco Bags of Help is looking to support. The carer charity provides invaluable services including information, advice and support to the estimated 66,000 unpaid carers across East Sussex and this year is proud to be celebrating its 30th anniversary.
Care for the Carers Chief Executive, Jennifer Twist, says “We are delighted to receive this donation from Tesco Uckfield and want to thank all their customers and colleagues for their commitment to carers in the local area. There are 1,400 unpaid carers in Uckfield alone, that is nearly one in ten of the population; Looking after a relative, friend or neighbour can be hugely stressful and many local carers only just managing with very little help. Thanks to your donation we can be there for more Uckfield carers to ensure no one is left to care alone – thank you.”
