The awards event for the 13th Annual Garden Competition organised by Brighter Uckfield was held on Saturday 29th July at the Civic Centre.
Winning entrants received a trophy and a Certificate, along with a Certificate to those whose entries were judged to be “Commended”.
There were 13 categories ranging from Best Front Garden to Hanging Basket to The Best School Project, which was won by Fletching CE Primary School and not forgetting the award for Keld Close Uckfield Community Garden by Wealden District Council

Best Back Garden – Yvonne Linthwaite
Best Small Back Garden – Mr and Mrs West
Best Environmental Garden – Mr and Mrs Bath
Best Revamped Garden – Steve West
Best Overall Garden – Geoffrey Forster
Best Roses – June Wedlake
Best Hanging Basket – Pam Willis
Best Hanging Basket (Highly Commended) – Ros Wren
Best Vegetable Plot – Alistair Sandell and Family
Best Church Garden – Cornerstone Church
Best School Project – Fletching Primary School
Best Community Garden – Keld Close Community Garden
Best Communal Garden – Shaftesbury Court
The success for Keld Close Community Garden followed closely the Garden’s success in Wealden District Council’s garden competition.
Speaking for Fletching Primary School, Alistair Sandell praised the commitment shown by the School’s youngsters and remarked how important it is for children to realise the effort that goes into putting food on their table.
Brighter Uckfield Chairman, Ian Smith, warmly thanked volunteer Beryl Venables for organising the Competition and also Dee Russell who had judged each and every entry.
