The broadcast regulator, OFCOM, has recently agreed to an application from Uckfield FM to:
“an extension to surrounding villages via a power increase.”
OFCOM gave its reasons for its decision as extending:
“its service into ‘satellite’ villages surrounding Uckfield. The extended service area will include Newick, High Hurstwood, Fairwarp, Buxted, Blackboys and Halland.”
Currently, the station is licenced to broadcast at 25W in each direction (Horizontal and Vertical). The decision will permit this to be increased to 150W in each direction which will mean better coverage in the villages surrounding Uckfield and potentially getting closer towards Crowborough.
Mike Skinner, one of the founders of the station, commented:
“This is brilliant news for the station, the town and the area. Since its first broadcast in 2003 it has grown beyond belief and now 17 years later we are in the position of gaining extra power and maybe DAB next year. This is all down to a wonderful number of volunteers who have always gone the extra mile.”
