Saturday’s wet weather decimated the local Sussex Cricket League programme.
Playing their first home game of the season, Uckfield Anderida reached 79 for two against Polegate and Stone Cross, before the rain put an end to any further play at the Victoria Ground.
Buxted Park also made a start to their match at Crowhurst Park, and an unbeaten 105 from Darren Colaco helped Buxted Park to 214 for seven. But the hosts were unable to start their reply.
All of the other matches involving our main local teams were also abandoned.
Meanwhile, Sussex’s county team suffered their first Championship defeat of the season yesterday, as they went down by 58 runs to neighbours Kent at Canterbury.
In football, Brighton and Hove Albion were beaten four-nil at Liverpool in their final game of the season yesterday. The Seagulls finished in 15th place in the Premier League table.
And finally, there was a narrow defeat for the Eastbourne Eagles speedway team yesterday, as they lost to Coventry by 46 points to 44 in the first leg of their Knockout Cup tie. The Eagles’ scheduled National Trophy clash with the Kent Kings at the Arlington Stadium on Saturday evening was postponed because of rain.
