In Saturday’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town maintained their impressive unbeaten run in 2018 with a creditable one-all draw at sixth-placed Eastbourne Town in the Southern Combination Premier Division.
Uckfield went behind after only two minutes, but a battling performance was rewarded when Matt Maclean netted a deserved equaliser in the 78th minute.
Uckfield are back in action tomorrow evening, when they host title-chasing Saltdean. Kick-off at the Oaks is at 7.45 pm.
Waterlogged pitches across the area badly disrupted the local village programme, with only Nutley of our main local teams surviving the weather, losing five-two at home to Burgess Hill Albion.
Lewes retained their five-point lead at the top of the Bostik League South after a three-one victory at lowly Ashford United.
But, Brighton and Hove Albion’s excellent recent run came to an end, as they went down to a two-nil defeat at Everton.
In rugby union, Uckfield recorded their seventh successive league win, but only by a narrow margin, as they defeated near-neighbours Burgess Hill by ten points to seven at Hempstead Fields.
And finally, for local horse racing fans, there’s another meeting at Plumpton this afternoon. The first race is due off at twenty past two.
