In the weekend’s local football, there was an excellent result for AFC Uckfield Town, who were playing their first match for three weeks. Uckfield came from behind to win two-one at Peacehaven and Telscombe in the Southern Combination League, thanks to goals from Bailo Camara and Matt Black.
In local village football, Maresfield were three-two winners at home to Ifield Galaxy in the Mid Sussex League. But, all the other scheduled fixtures involving our main local teams were postponed.
In the Bostik League South, there was a big win for Lewes. They scored twice in the opening ten minutes of their top-of-the-table clash at Cray Wanderers and went on to win two-one and return to top spot in the table.
But, it was a disappointing afternoon for Brighton and Hove Albion against Chelsea at the Amex Stadium. The visitors were two-nil up in the first six minutes and then scored twice late on to seal a four-nil win.
In rugby union, Uckfield were without a league game on Saturday. Meanwhile, Newick defeated near neighbours Plumpton by 19 points to 16.
