In Saturday’s local football, there was another excellent cup result for AFC Uckfield Town, as they defeated Hollands and Blair 2-0 in the FA Vase first qualifying round at the Oaks. In-form Callum Smith continued his hot streak with both goals in the second half, making it nine goals in five matches.
Uckfield are back in action on Tuesday evening, when they visit Eastbourne United in the Peter Bentley League Cup.
Ridgewood drew 1-1 at Balcombe Reserves in their first match of the season. Elsewhere in the Mid Sussex League, Nutley lost 5-1 at West Hoathly, Fletching won 3-2 at AFC Uckfield Town’s third team, whilst Maresfield lost by the same scoreline at Eastbourne Athletic.
There was a good win for Lewes in the Bostik Premier – they won by the only goal at Margate.
Brighton and Hove Albion fought back from 2-0 down to earn a point from a 2-2 draw with Fulham at the Amex on Saturday.
In the final round of matches in the Sussex Cricket League, Uckfield Anderida ended their campaign on a disappointing note with a 25-run defeat at Pett, despite 65 from David Tungate.
There was a thrilling one-run victory for Buxted Park at St Peters of Brighton. But, due to results elsewhere, it wasn’t enough for Buxted Park to reach the second promotion spot.
However, Isfield did secure promotion in their league after a 125-run win at home to Willingdon, with Ewan Thornicroft recording remarkable figures of six for nine.
Relegated Fletching and Maresfield both won their final games of the season. But there were defeats for Newick and Blackboys.
In speedway, it was a mixed weekend for the Eastbourne Eagles. On Saturday night, the Eagles beat local rivals the Kent Kings by 56 points to 31 at the Arlington Stadium, before going down at the National League leaders Mildenhall yesterday by 57 points to 33.
