In local football, AFC Uckfield Town were without a scheduled fixture on Saturday. Meanwhile, the local village football programme was again badly disrupted by the weather.
In the Mid Sussex League, only Fletching of our main local teams saw any action – they drew one-all at Roffey’s third team. However, Ridgewood did manage play a speedily arranged friendly with AFC Bolnore on the Uckfield All-weather pitch, the match ending in a two-all draw.
A goal two minutes from time gave Lewes a one-nil win at Chipstead, keeping them at the top of the Bostik League South table.
But, there was disappointment for Brighton and Hove Albion, as they went down two-nil at West Bromwich. The Seagulls have now slipped down to 16th place in the Premier League, three points above the relegation zone.
In local rugby, there was another excellent win for Uckfield – their fourth successive victory – as they defeated local rivals Eastbourne by 34 points to 15 at Hempstead Fields. Match report.
There was victory too for Newick, who beat the Brighton and Sussex Medical School by 64 points to seven.
Finally, for local horse racing fans, there’s another meeting at Plumpton this afternoon. The first race is off at 25 past one.
