It was another eventful game for AFC Uckfield Town on Saturday, as, for the second time this season, they were on the wrong end of a four-three scoreline in a seven-goal thriller against Horsham YMCA.
Uckfield found themselves two down after only seven minutes, before recovering to score twice just before half-time through Callum Smith and debutante Gianfranco Mici. Smith’s second goal then put Uckfield three-two ahead, only for the home side to score twice in a five-minute spell to take all three points, which took them to the top of the Southern Combination League table.
Uckfield are back in action tomorrow evening, when they host Peacehaven and Telscombe in the Peter Bentley Cup. Kick-off at the Oaks is at 7.30 pm.
In local village football, Maresfield beat Ditchling Reserves three-two in the Mid Sussex League. Elsewhere in cup competitions, Nutley were four-nil winners at Buxted. Newick won four-one at Fairfield. And Ridgewood lost a penalty shootout against Ardingly, after the match had ended in a one-all draw.
Lewes are through to the next round of the FA Trophy after two first-half goals gave them a two-nil victory at home to Merthyr Town.
But, there was disappointment for Brighton and Hove Albion, as they conceded a debatable last-minute goal to go down two-one at Cardiff in the Premier League.
Finally, Uckfield rugby club were without a game this weekend.
