In the weekend’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town came from behind to earn a creditable point in a one-all draw at home to fourth-placed Horsham YMCA. Uckfield are back at the Oaks tomorrow evening, when they entertain Loxwood.
In the Mid Sussex League, Buxted Park lost two-nil at Lindfield. Fletching had a five-nil victory at AFC Ringmer Reserves, whilst Newick were beaten three-two at Handcross Reserves. Nutley’s game at Copthorne Reserves was postponed.
Meanwhile, in a cup match, Ridgewood lost on penalties to Lindfield Reserves after the game finished three-all.
Already promoted Lewes kept on course for the Bostik League South title following a two-nil win at home to Sussex rivals East Grinstead.
And Brighton and Hove Albion missed the chance to move further away from the Premier League relegation zone after a three-two defeat at arch rivals Crystal Palace. Next up for the Seagulls is the visit of Tottenham to the Amex Stadium tomorrow evening.
The Eastbourne Eagles got their National League campaign up and running with mixed fortunes over the weekend. On Saturday, the Eagles had a comfortable 60 points to 30 win over Buxton at the Arlington Stadium, before going down 51-39 to Coventry yesterday. On Friday night, the Eagles had a narrow 46-44 win at Plymouth in the National Trophy.
In local cricket, Uckfield Anderida’s scheduled friendly with East Dean and Friston on Saturday was cancelled. Meanwhile, it’s the final day today of Sussex’s opening County Championship fixture against Warwickshire at Edgbaston, with Sussex resuming on 194 for six in reply to the home side’s 299.
