In Saturday’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town had to settle for a point after surrendering a two-nil lead at Saltdean in the Southern Combination League.

In the Mid Sussex League, Buxted drew one-all at home to AFC Ringmer. Ridgewood beat Portslade Athletic two-nil, whilst Fletching won three-nil at Peacehaven and Telscombe’s third team. But, there were defeats for Nutley, who were beaten three-two by West Hoathly, and for Maresfield, who lost five-nil at home to Barcombe.
Lewes’s run in the FA Cup came to end, as a weakened team went down to a three-nil defeat at Bath City.
In rugby union, Uckfield moved to the top of table thanks to a 34 points to 15 victory at bottom club Ditchling. Meanwhile, Newick lost at Midhurst by 44 points to five.
And, it was a frustrating weekend for the Eastbourne Eagles speedway team. The scheduled first leg of their play-off semi-final with Coventry at the Arlington Stadium on Saturday evening was postponed due to heavy rain, and yesterday’s second leg also fell victim to the weather.
