Two late goals gives AFC Uckfield a good win in friendly

Two late goals from Matt Mclean and Callum Smith gave AFC Uckfield a well-deserved pre-season 2-0 win over Essex Senior League opponents Barkingside FC.

Manager Anthony Storey sent out experienced, yet experimental team in the first half, with both sides unable to get a firm grip of the game. The second-half saw Uckfield take control and on the 85th minute, tricky winger Bailo Camara provided a fantastic cross finding Maclean to leap above his marker to take the lead with a well-placed header.

Then as the game entered injury time, Maclean, turned provider with a delightful through ball for striker Callum Smith to confidently slot home past the opposing keeper.

Joint-assistant manager Bailo Camara said

“We are really pleased with how pre-season is going, the lads are working hard and morale is great. To get a couple of wins is always good for confidence as we get closer to the league opener.”

They travel to Bostik Premier side Whitehawk on Friday 27th July for a 7.45 kick-off, as the competitive season draws closer.
