Cricket – Nutley v Ditchling ‘Another heavy defeat’

Ditchling 2nds 219 for 8 beat Nutley 64

Nutley’s awful run continued with another heavy defeat following a woeful performance at Ditchling.

Having been invited to bat on another hot day, Ditchling made a slow start as Paul Carter (0/12) and Warren Freer (1/16) restricted them to just 32 from the first 18 overs after their nine over spells but saw little reward for their efforts. However, the visitors bowler shortage was exposed again as Charlie Brewer (115) and Anthony Eastman (43) helped themselves to some easy pickings to rapidly boost the run rate. Alan Poulter (4/58) saw late success but it was all to late as the hosts posted 219 for 8.

Nutley’s reply was pitiful as they collapsed to for 26 for 6. Poulter (21) and Freer (17) prevented total humiliation before they were dismissed for 64 with nobody to blame but themselves! Tom Newell (4/18) did the early damage before Dave Collard (2/3) and Peter Cooke (2/29) cleaned up.

Next week Nutley host leaders Crowborough.
